Friends and Family:

I have decided to take on an exiting new challenge this year! I am going to run the Suzuki Rock 'n' Roll Marathon on June 1st. I consider myself a casual runner, so running 26.2 miles is something I never thought I would do. I have started my training, which will intensify continually until the day of the marathon. I know this will be a difficult challenge, but I feel confident that I can tackle this through the support of Team In Training.

Team In Training is the largest endurance sports training program in the world and is made up of 30,000 runners, walkers, cyclists and tri-athletes who participate on behalf of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

The marathon was appealing to me because of the challenge and the opportunity for me to raise money for children suffering from leukemia. This event is also an opportunity for you. Through our team effort and donations received on behalf of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, we help them continue finding effective treatments for this disease. Unfortunately, Leukemia takes more children's lives than any other disease, and it also affects 10 times more adults each year. In fact, an estimated 640,000 Americans are presently living with leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. Ongoing research is the only way the society can hopefully find a cure.

My personal inspiration during my training has been a 9-year old girl name Allison Stelle (pictured above). She was diagnosed on July 29, 1995 with a rare form of Leukemia, B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic. At two years old she received six months of intensive chemotherapy & had to spend 132 nights in the hospital. The doctors said the risk of relapse was high, but luckily she still has not relapsed. In fact, in February 2001, Allie reached her 5-year mark, which according to her doctors, means she is cured.
Although Allie is in remission,long-term effects from her treatment are visible. She has been dealing with learning disabilities, attention issues, and seizures. Doctors are just now starting to learn about the side effects of patients who have received high doses of chemotherapy. My hope is to help the society in its continued efforts to improve the survival rate and quality of life for leukemia and lymphoma patients.

My goal is to raise $2400 in pledges for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to help people like Allie. While it's up to me to make it to the finish line, I need your help to achieve this fundraising goal. Over 80% of all donations made to the society go directly toward research and patient care and ALL donations are 100% tax deductible! Any size donation is welcome and extremely appreciated!

To make a donation, please complete the donation form (available on the left navigation menu) and return it with your donation check to 828 Duncan Way, Folsom, CA 95630 by Friday, March 28th. (Don't worry if you miss the deadline, donations received after March 28th are still very welcome.)

Thank you so much for your support,
